There's more to a long term marriage than being too poor to afford a divorce attorney!

I have been married to my wife for nearly seventeen years. How is this possible? If I was lucky enough to con her into marry me in the first place, then keeping her shouldn't be that inconceivable. I met Kim while working for Tyson Foods. I ignored the whole, "don't get your meat where you get your bread" advice. For the record, I highly recommend one stop shopping!

I'm not sure what she saw in me, but I instantly was interested in her good looks. Once I met her, I was even more interested in her personality. She was just back on the market after breaking up with her boyfriend. I pounced on the opportunity. I had to act quick. What topic could I start our first real conversation with? It had to be good. It had to instantly impress her with my vast skills for attracting the opposite sex. I know! I'll discuss stock market investing strategies! I rambled on for thirty minutes or more.

Oh how dumb can a poor geek be! Despite the misfire, she took pity on me. We began talking about her interests. I became a listener versus a conversationalist. Besides, I'm the introvert of the couple.

I believe the key to a long term marriage includes:
1. Being best friends with your spouse
2. Respect for one another
3. Knowing love is more than the butterflies you get with young love
4. Being committed to making the marriage work
5. Treating you spouse the way you want to be treated (Golden Rule)

My First Blog

Who am I? That is a loaded question. One that will take multiple entries to answer. Over the course of this blog, I will reveal more about me. This will also be a forum for me to rant and rave about a multitude of topics such as parenting, travel, food, wine, financial advice, real estate and much more. For now, I am a middle aged man with a wife and three children; working at a dream job in corporate America; owning wine stores and real estate; and interested in various side interests.

Why should you waste your time reading this? That is a question you have to answer. Maybe you found this by searching on a topic or maybe you just like to live life through someone else's experiences. Whatever your reason, welcome to my Blog!
